Unions, Are they good for what? Options

Since i play 11x11 i never was capable understand what the real functions of the unions. yes, i realised that this unions allows to spread knowledge and allow to make some fun tournament intra-unions and between unions (this some tournaments give extra-experience to the players). But this happens effectively? i have some doubts...

I think is could be interesting, if the unions could gain money or another type of premium (i.e. experience, boosters) and if that bonus could be divided by all the elements that constitute that union. in addition, the unions would have to be reduced in number of elements that contains... what for a union with 1000 or 2000 managers? All they can communicate with each other? with smaller unions the communication will be better. that is, what I would suggest is to introduce a real dimension of competition between unions.
